The newest treatment for acne is laser. We use three lasers to treat acne:

SmoothBeam: (shrink sebaceous glands, improve scars)
This laser has recently been FDA approved for the treatment of acne. The Smoothbeam targets and selectively shrinks the sebaceous glands, which play a prominent role in the cause of acne. Treatment is once a month for one to four months. The results are long-lasting.
This condition, common in women, is a challenge to treat. We treat a lot of melasma in South Florida because it is more common in Latin American woman, and because we have strong sun all year round. Given our experience, we have created an eight week treatment regimen for melasma:
  • Daily use of sunscreen is the first and most important step in lightening the pigment caused by melasma.
  • A strong lightening agent (or “bleaching cream”) is the second step. We use products like Triluma (AND it costs less).
  • The third step is to peel the skin (one treatment every two weeks for eight weeks). This can be accomplished using a variety of chemical peels or Microdermabrasion. The choice will depend on a number of factors and doctor or the esthetician will direct you. Peeling exfoliates the outer layers of dead skin, removing some pigment, but more importantly, allowing the bleaching cream to penetrate and do its job.

The Smoothbeam laser by Candela received F.D.A. approval to treat periocular wrinkles in February 2002. By promoting the production of collagen, there now is a safe and effective way to improve the appearance of sun damaged and aging skin in an effort to make you look and feel younger.

With its patented, revolutionary LASR process, the Smoothbeam laser provides skin renewal while protecting the skin with a burst of cryogen (cool mist) that protects the upper layers of skin. By targeting the dermis, we are improving the skin’s health from underneath. A typical treatment takes 20-30 minutes.

It is advisable to perform Microdermobrasion treatments in the interval between the Smoothebeam treatments to help improve skin tone and texture.

We believe in a “fitness” program for the skin. This involves developing a proper skin care treatment regimen that our aestheticians can design specifically for you, smoking and sun avoidance and proper nutrition.

Warts are extremely common and can be extremely stubborn. An effective alternative to chemical treatment or freezing is laser therapy. Treatment works by selective absorption of laser energy by the blood supply which feeds the wart. The blood supply is cut off and the wart “dies”.

Age spots or “liver spots” are small darkened patches on the skin of adults who have been exposed to the sun over many years. Usually the face, chest, and backs of the hands are most affected by these spots. “Solar lentigines” is the medical name for these “spots”.

Lasers can remove areas of excessive pigmentation leaving the texture and color of the skin natural and unchanged. Most age spots, sunspots, and birthmarks are harmless, however ALL should be assessed by a dermatologist before removal with a laser or by any other means.
